Music Night: Songs for A Winter’s Eve

This evening performance features the Chorus, Jazz Choir, Jazz Ensemble and the Chamber Singers on December 13, 2007 at First Congregational Church, 900 High Street in Santa Cruz. Admission is free.

“Forever Plaid” – a Musical Senior Project

8 pm on January 31 through February 2, 2008 at the Veterans’ Hall in Santa Cruz

What happens when a harmony group is snuffed out mide-coda? Find out in this senior project production of the hit Las Vegas musical Forever Plaid which features hit Forever Plaid songs of the 1950s a la The Four Aces, Perry Como, and Harry Belafonte and the “condensed” greatest hits of the Ed Sullivan Show through the ages including ventriloquism, plate spinning, singing nuns and Italian mice. Tickets are $10 and are available at the school or at the performance.

Chamber Singers and Jazz Choir at the Shadowbrook Restaurant

Tuesday, February 12th from 5-8 pm

You are invited to an evening of fine dining and exceptional music. Award winning Kirby musicians will serenade you as you dine. This event is part of the Shadowbrook’s popular “Community Tuesday’s” to assist non-profit organizations in Santa Cruz County where 1/3 of your dinner tab will go to Kirby students to help defray expenses for their attendance at the “Festival of Gold Competition”. Location: Shadowbrook Restaurant, 1730 Wharf Road, Capitola.

The Musical “She Loves Me”

The musical She Loves Me is a warm, romantic, musical comedy with an endearing She Loves Me innocence and a touch of old world elegance and nostalgia. The performance is based on the play by Miklos Laszlo, with music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick.

Performances are at 7 pm at the Louden Nelson Center in Santa Cruz on April 11, 12, 18 and 19. Advance purchase of tickets is recommended ($15 for adults and $10 for students.) For more information call 423-0658.


High School Art Exhibit: April 18 to May 18

GBK artists join other high school art students at the 53rd High School Art Exhibit at the Santa Cruz Art League April 19 to May 18. The exhibit is open daily during regular hours, with a reception on April 26 from 3 to 5 pm at 526 Broadway, Santa Cruz. For more information go to www.scal.org.

GBK student, Tori Schweyer was awarded Best of Show. The exhibit is open through May 18th at the Art League, 526 Broadway, Santa Cruz, CA. Hours are Wed – Sat, from 12 5, and Sun from 12 -4. Other studentawards include: Special Award – Chairperson’s Award: Tori Schweyer; Special Award – SC Watercolor Society: 3rd place, Tenaya Anue; Special Award – Cabrillo College Gallery Art Award: Micah Wylde; Special Award: Museum of Art History:Raymond Mendoza; Drawing Honorable Mention: Natty Hawley; Watercolor Honorable Mention: Tenaya Anue; Acrylic Honorable Mention: Shelby Eisenberg, and; Acrylic Honorable Mention: Maia Spencer.

Printmaking Awards included: 1st place: Micah Wylde; 2nd place: Tenaya Anue; 3rd place: Pilar Marin-Stein; Honorable Mention: Alex Foy, and; Honorable Mention: George Wise.

Dance Showcase: May 21

Georgiana Bruce Kirby’s dance class will be performing 12 short pieces that will include modern, Afro-Brazilian, salsa, hip-hop, theater dance, contemporary, and disco/hustle formats. Music for the performances was mixed by students in the school’s new audio engineering laboratory class. The performance is at 7 pm at Veteran’s Hall, 846 Front Street in Santa Cruz. Admission is free.

Spring Music Night: May 22

Drama Class Productions: May 27

Midsummer Night's DreamThis evening will be devoted to performances by the drama classes. The 8th grade classes will perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The advanced acting classes will perform one act plays. Performances begin at 7 p.m. in the school’s Great Hall. Admission is free.
